Getting a job at Smashbox Cosmetics.

ALL OPINIONS ARE MY OWN!

Hellooo! I've decided I'm going to do a few posts in the next few days about getting a job in different makeup counters. I'm going to start with how I got my current job at Smashbox :).

So if you were thinking about applying for Smashbox, you'll be completely obsessed with makeup, like me. Your first step would be to head over to the Boots jobs website and apply for your vacancy on there. You have to do a few basic online questions and then if your successful at this stage you'll be asked for an interview.

I did fairly heavy eye makeup as it's what I would do at work, this was to my advantage as my Boots manager was also a makeup artist and appreciated this. You'll do work on the shop floor and then basic interview questions also.

Important things to remember are that you'll be hired by Boots which is a VERY customer service based company, as is Smashbox. You'll be wearing skinnies and Converse to work to make you more approachable. Therefore I recommend talking about how important customer service is to you, think of plenty of examples and ask plenty of questions to show your interest. I recommend babbling on about how much you looooove makeup and keeping up with trends. It helps if you're a mua, specifically a photographic one.

Smashbox was started by Dean and Davis Factor - great grandsons of Max Factor! Dean and Davis own Smashbox studios in LA ( there are 2 studios) and all SBX makeup is 'created, tested and photographed at Smashbox Studios LA.' SBX Studios is a WORKING photography studio and has been used for the covers of Vogue and Rolling Stones. It was where Single Ladies was shot and a few of Jay Z's videos have been shot there also! So it's a big advantage if you can say you have worked in a photography studio as you'll understand the advantages of working with cosmetics which are perfect for any 'Photo-op'!

I'm completely obsessed with my job, I absolutely LOVE working at SBX and it's definitely worth applying for!
Don't take this blog post as bible, but I hope its helped some of you! :)

Contact me if you want to ask anymore questions or just for a chat :)

Sleek eyeshadow palettes!

I recently did quite a large Sleek haul from their website as I've heard soooo much good stuff about their palettes and could potentially save a bit of money than always buying MAC (which i'll probably keep doing anayways!)

All swatches are top rown (L-R) and then bottom row (R-L)

1) Sunset 568 Palette

2) Snapshots 732 Palette

3) Au Naturel 601 Palette

4)Primer Palette 600

5) Acid 570 Palette

PROS:
-The quality of the shimmer shades are amazing. The texture is soft and they have such a high pigmentation.
- For £7.99, you get 12 shades at 1.1g each (1 mac shadow= 1.5g and costs £12.50). Excellent value for money.
- Sturdy packaging.
- Lots of choice and a wide range of colours.

CONS:
- Matte colour payoff is horrible. They're fairly chalky and you need to use quite a bit to get the right pigmentation from them.
-The primer palette is a no no. It made my eyeshadow crease. Non of the eyeshadows i've used so far have lasted all day anyway from this palette but their primers didn't help.

Overall, I probably won't be buying another one as They don't last on me even two hours without creasing, and I never reapplying my makeup throughout the day.

Sorry Sleek :(
